Vikings Season 4 Episode 8 “Portage” :- Watch Vikings Season 4 Episode 8 “Portage” on Youtube on Fire, Thursday night’s episode of Vikings marks the first episode of the fourth season that really rubbed me the wrong way. That’s not at all bad, really. I’m usually a pretty tough critic when it comes to TV shows, but this season of Vikings has been so good I’ve been at a loss for complaints for the most part. All that changed when the show decided to off not one, not two, but three important characters last night. Well, maybe they weren’t so important after all. One of these deaths really bothered me; one felt like a waste of potential; and one underscored the weaknesses in one of this season’s big subplots. Let’s look at each. Count Odo was the first to die in “Portage.” The sadist traitor was built up to be a really lousy, unpleasant person this season. Last night he went to the Emperor to have Rollo arrested, betraying his once-ally for petty reasons. But he’s caught, tricked by his mistress into taking the whip for once rather than doling it out. I can appreciate the irony there, but the entire plot-line ending with a pretty underwhelming death seems like a total waste of our time. Odo was never a true threat. We just had to endure him getting his jollies from whipping a woman bloody. He never made any power plays or exercised his influence in any sort of threatening way. The politics of the Frankish court have consistently fallen flat in Vikings.
