The Crown Season 1 Episode 3 “Windsor” :- Watch The Crown Season 1 Episode 3 “Windsor” on Youtube on Fire, The episode, entitled “Windsor”, focuses on the bid by Lord Mountbatten (a saturnine Greg Wise), Prince Philip’s uncle, to establish his family name and withdraw the Royal Warrant of 1917 which produced the House of Windsor. It is an interesting story of which many viewers will be unaware. However, it does not hum with dramatic resonance and, indeed, rather unconvincing encounters were shoehorned in to propel the story forward. Admittedly, this is a work of fiction, but would Lord Mountbatten really have telephoned Philip (Matt Smith) to advance his family honour, while the Queen was holding an audience with Churchill? The debate over the name, of course, provides a blip in the hitherto blissful relationship between the Queen and Philip. As she rejects the Mountbatten “brand” and confirms that they will be moving from the loved Clarence House to the loathed Buckingham Palace, he looks like a tomcat who had just been neutered. “What kind of marriage is this?” he asks. “You’ve taken my career from me, you’ve taken my name and you’ve taken my home. I thought we were in this together.” Smith rather underplays this scene, and in some ways this felt right with the idea that even the Royal couple’s most private moments are marked with a quiet reserve. By far the best scenes involve the Duke of Windsor, played by Alex Jennings as a sort of cross between a petulant little boy and a broken reed. The former Edward VIII is shown to be a nasty piece of work.
